Major Abid was serving in the Swat operation and during an operation his convoy was ambushed. He sacrificed his life one week before his 34th birthday while saving the lives of two of his wounded soldiers Sepoy Tariq and Sepoy Nausherwan. He was a third generation soldier serving in the army. His grandfather was a Subedar, his late father Abdul Majeed was a Lieutenant Colonel; Abid joined 19 Punjab (old 7th battalion of 16th Punjab). His brother Major Khalid Majeed Malik was serving in the same sector and both brothers were fighting the common enemy. Khalid was injured and Abid was mortally wounded. \
